Dance theatre piece for a young audience
a coproduction by ATASH عطش Contemporary Dance Company and Dschungel Wien

Malaika, a wind from far away, visits Leyla after many years and brings with her an old diary, a gateway to forgotten dreams. As Leyla opens its pages, she is transported back to her childhood. One day, Malaika blows into her room, carrying a thousand scents and colors, and tales of distant lands and ancient myths. From this encounter, an extraordinary friendship is born. Together, they embark on a breathtaking journey through deserts and forests, valleys and waters, meeting a powerful water goddess, a proud creature with hooves, a mysterious wolf, and more.
It is a voyage filled with wonder and magic, where Leyla discovers her inner strength, her longing, and, finally, her own wings.

In MALAIKA, the ATASH عطش Contemporary Dance Company explores the mysterious friendship between a wind and a young girl. Accompanied by original compositions from clarinetist Mona Matbou Riahi, the dancers invite audiences into a poetic world of movement, music, and shimmering beauty.

With extraordinary suppleness and grace, the performers embody the lightness of the winds, defying gravity, expectations, and prejudice alike. Sometimes furious and stormy, sometimes tender and quiet, MALAIKA moves fluidly between memory, resistance, and self-determination.
A celebration of transformation, friendship, and the richness of Southwest Asia’s cultural heritage.
